Preventing Diabetic nephropathy

Diabetic nephropathy is the most common cause of end-stage renal disease.

It occurs in 25–40% of patients with diabetes!
So if you have diabetes but fail to keep your blood sugar within an acceptable range, you run a significant risk of developing kidney disease.
Prevention of diabetic nephropathy is crucial. The basis for the prevention of diabetic nephropathy is the treatment of its known risk factors including hypertension, hyperglycemia, smoking, and dyslipidemia.
The goal of treatment is to prevent diabetic kidney disease from progressing to total kidney failure.
Treatment includes diet and lifestyle changes to control high blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
